Further Notes
A bright-sounding extension of the simple Major triad, the M/9 chord can be thought of as lying somewhere between the "barer" three-tone sus2 chord of pop/rock music and the lusher 5-tone M9 chord of jazz. As indicated in the homonym relationships, the 5th tone can be omitted without the M/9 losing its independent status & distinctive sound.
