One characteristic "sound" of the Dorian can be achieved by playing the *notes* of the D major chord (d-f#-a) over the Em chord _per_se_. For instance, try playing f#-d-f#-d-f#-d(-e) over the 1st measure (Em)--a common pattern-formula found in lots of famous leads (e.g., "Oye Como Va"). ======== | --:--tcg )
